Details in Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s high-profile statements speak volumes about the direction their relationship is taking.
Last year, rumors of a new royal split began to leak out of the Montecito household. Was Prince Harry and Meghan, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s relationship well?
Now comes fresh news from the snowy slopes of Canada, confirming that significant changes are brewing in Sussex – the couple are indeed splitting up. And professionally, at that.
Over the past week, Harry and Meghan have made many important announcements: a new business deal and an extensive new TV interview being broadcast worldwide. However, these recent events are notable because each involved only one-half of the previously inseparable professional couple.
Whereas both Sussexes were hired by Spotify in 2020, this time around, only the former Suits star has gotten her name on the pages of Deadline’s industry bible.
The pair were in Whistler for promotional events for the 2025 Invictus Games over the past week. Harry was interviewed by Good Morning America (GMA) – and only Harry.
Remember when the Duke and Duchess decided to wear the full Stars and Stripes in March 2020? They’ve done so many deals together that they invested in matching ceremonial Mont Blancs. Harry Walker’s agency, Netflix, Spotify, and Wall Street asset manager Ethic all got the “salt and pepper shaker” that was Harry and Meghan. (Who can forget Meghan telling The Cut in 2022, “We’re like salt and pepper. We always move together”?)
Be that as it may, things have changed. By early 2023, Harry released his super-sized dose of “Mercy” sentiment and took on the accompanying public onslaught single-handedly. After all, this was his story, his truth, his journey. Megan going AWOL on his part seemed like a temporary recalibration.
But then came the. Divergence. For the past nine months, Harry and Meghan have been going their separate ways: in April, the Duchess joined the books of the biggest of Hollywood whales, WME agents, while Harry was learning how to fix a barn. (OK, that’s pure speculation, but what else was he doing?)
Their agreement with Spotify has been dead and buried for a while now, and the Netflix deal looks increasingly like it’s about to get its last rites.
Kate refutes Meghan’s wild claims.
This applies to their 9-to-5 lives, but release the doves at 5:01 p.m. During Valentine’s Day, the Duke and Duchess were photographed hand-in-hand enjoying a romantic dinner at Il Caminetto Italian restaurant because nothing says eternal and enduring love like a few shared appetizers and an extra glass of wine.
So how will Harry and Meghan behave after their “divorce” in the cold, harsh working world? Their two roads may have parted in the woods (with apologies to Robert Frost), but they still have a mortgage to pay. Ari had better work his magic.
