The fashion world has always been cyclical. What’s in vogue one year can ultimately be out of fashion the next. However, there are certain old-fashioned trends that not only are almost definitely never coming back, but they also make anyone who wears them now look old and out of touch.

We’ve picked out some examples of out-of-date fashion, including hairstyles, clothing, jewelry, makeup, and accessories, to show you some fashion faux pas to avoid.

Pastels

There’s nothing wrong with pastels as accent pieces or even as the main piece of a balanced outfit. However, going overboard with pastels from head to toe is not a good idea. All the colors blend together to create an over-pastel look.

Matching lipstick to your outfit is a good idea. For instance, a bright lipstick looks great with a more neutral outfit. However, a lipstick shade that matches your outfit can be tacky and out of touch.

Long hair is a look that many women – and men – are going for these days. However, there’s a point where the hair goes from looking stylishly long to, well, not so much. Mitch Stone, a celebrity stylist, says that hair that goes past your ribs is seen as cat lady long. That’s a pretty fair assessment, all things considered.

Underwear that doesn’t fit properly is a no-no. It shouldn’t bunch up or pop out of one’s clothes. If it does, it’s time to head to a lingerie store or high-end fashion outlet to get some more accurate measurements taken.

Tan-Coloured Tights

There was a time when wearing tan tights or pantyhose was a regular thing for women, but that was decades ago. Wearing tan tights can make people think you’re a bit old.

Heavy, Dark Eyeliner

You should avoid wearing dark and heavy eyeliner for a few reasons. First, it makes the face look heavier. Second, thick eyeliner is prone to smudging, which can lead to it clinging to the crevices, wrinkles, and fine lines of the face.

Brooches

In the past, brooches were a sign of wealth and status. However, they look tacky and out of touch with modern fashion. So, if you’ve got a family heirloom, keep it safe in the bottom of the jewelry box.

Cardigans

While cardigans are the most convenient option, they make you look older than you are. It might be the fabric or the cut—it could be that they’re too big for your body. If you want to look younger, invest in some stylish jackets or blazers instead.

Kitten heels

Short stilettos with a slight curve have had their day. But for some reason, women keep on wearing this fashion mistake. Like many others on this list, this fashion choice makes people look older because it’s outdated and unpopular.

Rhinestones

A little sparkle in your outfit may look great, but adding rhinestones will only make you look older. You should know that this style needs to be updated. Also, rhinestones only look good on a young child, but they should never be worn on adult-sized clothing. However, if you must have some rhinestones, keep the bling to a minimum.
