When Elizi “Eli” Corder adopted a cat named Shadow from a shelter three years ago, she never imagined her pet would show interest in her favorite pastime—pole dancing. However, almost immediately after moving into their new home, the kitten was instantly drawn to the pink pole set up in the middle of the bedroom.

At the same time, the 26-year-old New Jersey resident began mastering pole dancing on her own. Over time, she had to share not only space but also viewers’ attention with her curious companion. Today, Corder and her furry companion have become true internet stars, wowing their followers with spectacular tricks and a gravity-defying sense of style.

“They say animals pick up their owners’ habits. I think that’s why she settled in so quickly,” says Eli.

According to her, Shadow demonstrated natural talent from the very first time, without training or special lessons.

“Cats love to climb: trees, curtains, furniture. And the silicone pole was just perfect for her,” explains her owner. “She easily grabs hold and climbs up, doing everything her way.”

Of course, it wasn’t all straightforward. At first, the 10-pound Shadow cautiously touched the pole with her paws, then began jumping on and off. Over time, she became so confident that she remained on the pole while Ali practiced the movements.

“It was a gradual process. Sometimes I rewarded her with treats, but overall, it’s just cat nature,” says Corder. “They don’t need much motivation to climb.”

Now, the roles have reversed: Shadow is the one who reminds her owner about training. “Sometimes she’ll even invite me to practice—she’ll meow, jump on the pole, and look right at me, wagging her tail,” Ali laughs.

“It’s like she’s saying, ‘Get your camera out, I’m ready to shoot.’ She’s a real diva.”

Although Corder has had cats before, she calls her bond with Shadow special and even considers Shadow her spirit animal.

“Honestly, she’s the biggest star,” she admits. “I adore her madly.”
