Top 10 Highest Paid Athletes 2020 According to Forbes
The world’s top-earning athletes list has changed. Payouts were dropped for the first time in four years because the coronavirus caused many events to be postponed for the first time since World War II.
In total, the 100 highest-paid athletes got a combined $3.6 billion this year. This is 9% lower than 2019 and the first decline since 2016. So, let’s see who is in the first top 10 places of the world’s highest paid athletes list now.
#1 Roger Federer
Roger Federer is one of the best tennis players in history, but this is the first time he has taken the top spot. He has received $106 million this year so far in pre-tax earnings, edging past both Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi, who have been swapping the No. 1 spot during three of the past four years.
#2 Cristiano Ronaldo
The icon of soccer took second place with $105 million in 2020. According to Forbes, he’s also the second highest-paid athlete of the decade with $800 million in earnings. Don’t worry, Cristiano, you will get first place next year!
#3 Lionel Messi
This charismatic bearded soccer player took third place, resulting in a payout of $104 million. Seems like this guy is just one step behind Christiano: Lionel also holds third place in the highest-paid athlete of the decade list. Part of that was $32 million from Adidas, MasterCard and PepsiCo.
Another place is held by a soccer player! Neymar’s earnings are $95.5 M which makes him fourth in this list, and third among the most successful soccer players.
#5 LeBron James
King James got fifth place with $88.2 million. He’s the first american athlete and basketball player on the list that came from the United States, but not the last. Let’s hope next year James will make it higher.
#6 Stephen Curry
The second basket player and NBA legend Stephen Curry holds the sixth place with $74.4 millions. Well, he still has somewhere to go because more and more NBA players are adding to the list of forbs.
#7 Kevin Durant
Another NBA legend and Brooklyn Nets player, Durant reached seventh place. his income $63.9. It wasn’t long before the 64 millions, come on!
#8 Tiger Woods
What about golf? Everything’s cool: Eldrick Tont “Tiger” Woods got on the list with $62.3 million and achieved eighth place. Seems like playing golf is profitable enough, but not as good as tennis and soccer.
#9 Kirk Cousins
Ninth place was taken by football quarterback Kirk Daniel Cousins with $60.5 million. The American version of football is not that popular around the world, that’s why it’s so nice to see Kirk in this list.
#10 Carson Wentz
Carson Wentz closes the top ten most successful athletes list with an income of $59.1 million. He was not that far from Cousins so maybe next year they will switch places.
