Colin Farrell is starting a new foundation to help people with intellectual disabilities.

The Oscar-nominated actor, 48, has launched the Colin Farrell Foundation. It is “committed to transforming the lives of individuals and families with intellectual disabilities.” He is the president of the organization.

In an interview with People magazine, Farrell discussed the foundation and opened up about his 20-year-old son James, who has Angelman syndrome. Farrell shares James with his ex-partner Kim Bordenave.

Colin Farrell started a foundation to raise awareness about Angelman syndrome. His son was diagnosed with the genetic disorder after being described as “very silent” and “not hitting benchmarks” as a baby. Farrell cried in a People magazine video, recalling seeing his son take his first steps just before his 4th birthday. He was told that James “may never walk.”
