Buckingham Palace is unhappy with Prince William and Kate Middleton due to their perceived lack of engagement with royal duties.
In 2023, the couple completed 172 and 123 engagements, respectively, while Princess Anne, 73, completed a significantly higher number.
She is considered the hardest-working member of the royal family. The Telegraph reported that Anne attended 457 engagements this year, while King Charles came in second with 425 events attended.
In an exclusive interview with GB News, royal commentator Gareth Russell suggested that Prince William is prioritizing family life, much like his mother, Princess Diana.
Russell stated, ‘This is where you see that William is Diana’s son.’ There is a perception that he is Charles’ son and Harry is Diana’s son. However, Diana was immensely close with William.
Russell hinted that William and Kate might not be as affected by the criticism as other royals would be while acknowledging the enduring impact of Princess Diana on the monarchy.
He also mentioned that this is Diana’s impact on the monarchy, so William and Catherine may not be as wounded as other royals would have been by this level of press criticism.
Russell warned that the couple’s reputation may be damaged if they don’t focus on what’s best for the crown.
The danger for them is that their critics may paint them lazy, even though this decision was likely motivated by prioritizing their home life. The royal family’s reputation can take a long time to recover.
The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge must be visible to the public to avoid allowing their critics to control the narrative.
The couple first met at the University of St. Andrews in Scotland in 2001 and married in April 2011. They have three children: Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis.
In November, the future king mentioned that Kate could not join him for Singapore’s Earthshot Prize awards ceremony. She was helping George with his first set of major exams.
