One fan wrote below the latest Alpha Phi recruitment video, “Wisconsin is coming in hot!” The sorority chapter performs Jennifer López’s Jenny from the Block in their pajamas.
The video has been viewed over 1.5 million times on TikTok and shared thousands of times on other platforms.
Two girls start by doing perfect cartwheels in front of their fraternal house in Madison, Wisconsin. Then, five dancers do Jennifer Lopez’s famous choreography while the rest of the sorority cheers them on.
“We can’t wait to meet you, PC ’24!” the clip’s caption reads, inviting new members to join this year’s “pledge class.”
Wisconsin’s Alpha Phi sorority went viral on TikTok and X for perfectly replicating Jennifer López’s dance routine in a recruitment video.
In the first stage of recruitment, known as “rush,” interested girls visit each organization. Each tries to stand out.
A search on TikTok for “PC’24” shows hundreds of videos of sororities dancing to “Jenny from the Block” in different outfits.
Tennessee’s Kappa Delta posted a clip of its members in bright pink skirts, which has amassed more than 2.8 million views.
Another video by the University of Georgia’s Kappa Epsilon chapter had their girls in pajamas, dancing to J-Lo’s tune and getting 10.4 million views.
Alpha Omicron’s 4.8 million-view clip tried something different. Members wore sports shirts and performed cheerleading to AC/DC’s Thunderstruck.
Oklahoma’s Chi Omega also used AC/DC’s hit and performed a similar number in their university colors.
As the rush started, all 26 sororities uploaded dancing videos, many of which received millions of views. Alpha Phi is part of the National Panhellenic Conference, which includes 26 national and international sororities in the United States and Canada.
Other groups include the Interfraternity Council (IFC), which oversees male fraternities; the Multicultural Greek Council (MGC), which supervises ethnically diverse fraternities; and the National Pan-Hellenic Council, which oversees African American fraternities and sororities.
Girls interested in sororities go through four rounds of selection. In the first round, they visit every PHA chapter, narrowing their choice until the sorority and the recruit select each other.
The rest of the stages are Philanthropy Days, where recruits do charity work; Sisterhood Days, where they learn about each sorority’s culture; Preference Night, where they choose two organizations; and finally, Bid Day, when they are invited to join a specific sorority.
The videos also went viral in other countries, especially in Latin America, where people reminisced about classic movies.
