Amy was surprised it was time. The room was full of doctors and nurses. The baby’s parents were there, too, crying. They were meeting their daughter.
Amy heard the baby cry. She was there. She sat in bed but saw horror on her parents’ faces. Something was wrong.
Amy Long had always wanted to be a surrogate. She thought it would be a wonderful day when her baby was born, so she had been preparing for her hospital stay all month.
She had carried the baby for nine months and was now ready to meet her. But she felt something was wrong.
Jack and Alice held her hand through each contraction. They were lovely people, and she wanted to make them happy.
Amy heard the baby cry. It was over. Jack and Alice were now parents. But she could tell from their faces that something was wrong.
Amy had a smooth pregnancy. She was healthy and able to carry a child. She often had dinner with Jack and Alice.
Jack and Alice tried to stay positive, but their smiles faded. Amy saw them looking at the doctors with worry.
The doctor’s movements became faster and more stressed, unlike before. He looked worried and exchanged glances with the nurses. Amy’s heart pounded. The doctor’s words were lost in the rising tension.
Despite the chaos, the room suddenly became calm. The monitors beeped, and the medical staff murmured as if the room were a stage for a drama.
The doctor, who had been calm, now looked serious. He checked the baby’s vitals and adjusted the monitors. His face was still quiet, but Amy could see he was tense. He spoke quietly to the nurses, looking worried.
A nurse came to comfort Amy. She put a hand on Amy’s shoulder and spoke gently.
“You’re doing great, Amy.” Just a little longer, and you’ll be fine. The nurse tried to reassure Amy, but she was still anxious. The nurse’s calm helped a little, but Amy was still worried.
It was time. Amy pushed harder than ever before.
Amy heard the baby cry. It was over. Jack and Alice were parents. But she could tell from their faces that something was wrong.
“What’s wrong?” Alice asked, worried about their faces. But no one spoke. Alice ran out, leaving Jack to explain.
“It’s not our baby.” “She’s a different race,” Jack said, looking shocked and sad. Amy was carrying someone else’s child. What would they do?
It was hours later, and Amy was sitting in her hospital bed, crying. Alice and Jack sat speechless beside her. They were waiting for the doctor. They wanted to know why.
The doctor came in with a baby in a bed.
“Mr. and Mrs. Holden, I’m sorry. “The day we did the IVF, I made a big mistake,” he said sadly.
“There was a mix-up with the in vitro fertilization. The other girl got your embryo, while Amy got the one meant for her.
Jack and Alice were shocked by the doctor’s words. Where was their baby? Alice was about to speak when the doctor began talking again.
The other girl gave birth to a healthy baby girl two hours ago. “Your daughter is right here,” he said, showing them the baby.
Alice and Jack cried as they picked up their baby. Their daughter was inside someone else’s stomach but happy and healthy.
“We took the other baby to her parents.” “I’m so sorry,” the doctor said.
But it didn’t matter. Amy looked at her baby girl with happy tears as Jack and Alice spoke and told her how much they loved her. Everything was okay in the end.
As time passed, Amy stayed close to the Holden family. She became their daughter’s godmother. In the end, it was okay.
