Most people think of cats, dogs, or even parrots when they think of a pet. But what if you got a much bigger, wilder, and more unexpected pet? Have you ever imagined having a brown bear in your living room?

Grandma Rose lives in a small wooden house in the middle of the forest with a brown bear called Bruno. At first, it might seem like they wouldn’t get along, but they have a very special bond.

Having a big animal like a bear in the house meant Rose had to change her home. Check it out on the next page!

Years ago, Rose found a tiny bear cub trapped in a hunting trap while walking in the morning. The cub was weak, scared, and almost dead, but Rose couldn’t leave him. With her careful hands, she freed the cub and took him home. She looked after him, feeding him porridge and showing him lots of love until he was strong again.

Bruno grew quickly – and kept growing! Now, he is over eight feet tall and weighs about 600 pounds. Bruno is gentle with Rose despite his size, often curling up at her feet like a large dog. They have a strong bond built on trust and years of shared experiences.

But living with such a giant animal isn’t always easy. Bruno is powerful and can knock over furniture when he plays. Rose has reinforced her walls and replaced delicate decorations with sturdy, unbreakable items. Mealtime is another challenge; Bruno has a voracious appetite, and Rose spends hours preparing meals large enough to satisfy him.

Despite the challenges, Rose wouldn’t have it any other way. She says Bruno makes her happy and stops her feeling lonely. When asked why she got a bear, she smiles and says, “He needed me, and I needed him.”

Their unique friendship shows that even the most significant differences can be overcome with kindness. Bruno and Rose are living proof that love knows no boundaries.
