Mark’s choice to conceal his restored sight changed how he interacted with his surroundings. 

He wanted to see if he could spot changes that hadn’t been mentioned.

His wife, Emily, didn’t notice his new vision and continued her life as usual. 

One morning, Emily was surprised by a strange phone call that worried her. Sitting at the kitchen table, Mark saw that she looked worried when she glanced at him before answering.

Mark was curious and wanted to know why she was worried.

Mark decided to follow her, staying hidden. 

Emily met a stranger in a remote park and gave him an envelope. Mark couldn’t understand all of their conversation, but it was evident that something was wrong.

The stranger’s hand moved quickly as he spoke, and Emily shook her head, looking worried. When he had finished, the man put the envelope in his pocket and walked away quickly. 

Mark started to worry and looked around Emily’s office at home. 

He found financial statements with transactions he didn’t remember making and messages from unknown senders. The statements referenced large amounts of money, unusual codes, and places he had never been.

He also found a second bank account in Emily’s name with some significant deposits that he didn’t understand. Mark stared at the screen, unable to understand the numbers. Where did this money come from?

Worried, Mark hires a private detective to find out the truth. 

The investigator, an older man named Tom, listened carefully and wrote down what he saw. 

Mark felt worried and sweaty when he realized how secret Emily’s life seemed.

Mark secretly records Emily’s phone calls and when she goes out so that he can gather solid evidence. He put small cameras around the house and a voice recorder beside the telephone.

During one of his secret searches, Mark found an old family album Emily had hidden away. 

The bright images showed faces and places he didn’t know. 

One picture caught his eye: Emily standing beside a man who looked much like him. The man looked a lot like him, which was unusual, but he was sure he had never made that image.

Mark finds a hidden diary at the back of Emily’s closet. It contains details of years of secrets she has tried to keep from him. The diary shows that Emily has received much money to keep Mark out of the loop about their relationship. Emily was paid to make it seem like she was still in touch with the clone. According to the records, the honest Mark disappeared years ago in mysterious circumstances. 

Before he could tell Emily the truth, her children found the diary on the kitchen table and called the police because they thought there was a problem. They were very scared, so they quickly phoned 911. The police came to look at what they had found.

Mark had a secret life with Emily and had been acting strangely for some time. 

The real story of why Mark disappeared is revealed: he tried to do something wrong and tried to protect his family’s secrets. Emily’s role, although it was the wrong thing to do, was based on being loyal and scared. At the heart of the problem was an uncomfortable truth, which was finally revealed. Mark felt much better after finding the answers, but it had a significant personal cost.
