Her name was Laura Scheel, and Matt always tried to impress her. They were best friends, but everyone knew they were more than friends. Matt and Laura went to the same preschool in Phoenix, Arizona, and became inseparable. Unfortunately, their parents knew this wouldn’t last. And sadly, they were right.

That fateful day, Matt couldn’t contain himself. He was only four years old then but had to tell the world how he felt. He stood in front of the entire class and said he loved Laura.

But, as the lovebirds grew up, their journeys took them on separate roads.

When it was time for Laura and Matt to start kindergarten, they went to different schools.

They tried to stay friends, but they drifted apart. Seven years passed. Then, one day, Laura saw something that made her remember how she felt about Matt.

It was the start of her first year at university. Laura looked through her friends’ phone numbers when she saw Matt’s name. She was surprised to see this because she hadn’t heard from Matt for years. Laura told her friend about her childhood sweetheart, Matt, but her friend had already made a plan. Her friend wanted to get these friends from childhood back together. 

She did not want to contact Matt again but gave him her number anyway. Matt texted her, and they arranged to meet at the cinema. They hit it off immediately, and it felt like they had never stopped being friends or sweethearts. Two weeks after Matt first got in touch, they started dating. 

But soon, it was time for both to go to college, and they both knew how difficult this would be.

Once again, these two paths were destined to split, but they knew they had to fight for what they wanted, and they did. Laura enrolled at Northern Arizona University, and Matt moved to Chicago to attend Columbia College.

Senior year of college came for these two lovebirds. Matt wanted to surprise Laura in the most incredible way he thought possible. “I tricked Laura into thinking we were going to a picnic at the preschool. When they arrived at the surprise destination, Matt got down on one knee and proposed to Laura. “YES,” Laura exclaimed, “I was like, ‘Oh my gosh, is this happening?’. But indeed, it was, and Matt had everything sweetly planned. In December 2016, Matt and Laura married after almost 20 years of vowing they would.

But the couple still wakes up one morning and finds their faces all over social media.

Soon after they married, Laura posted about their meeting on social media. The post became an instant hit, and the caption started with Matt explaining how they fell in love: “I was enamored with Laura as a child, and I still am to this day,” he declared. But his story is only one of several heart-warming ones. 

Across the pond, a similar thing happened: Two people who didn’t expect to fall in love found that they had a history that went way back. Chase and Erica met on a backpacking trip across Europe in their mid-twenties. The journey only lasted two months, but Erica and Chase felt like they had known each other for much longer. Erica said, “I felt like we’d spent decades together.”

They started dating, and it felt like they were continuing a connection that had always been there. They still can’t explain why they got together or felt drawn to that piece of land in Romania. Now, they are happily married and are working on a plan to go back and buy the land in Romania.
