The 87-year-old, who has not been seen in public for almost two years, recently made a rare and heartwarming appearance with his daughter Lorraine Nicholson in a holiday photo.
In a picture from her Instagram post on 2 January, the 34-year-old sat next to the three-time Oscar winner. She wrapped her arms around her dad’s shoulders, and he clasped her arm, leaning into her with a slight grin. Nicholson wore a multicolored, striped button-down shirt, while Lorraine wore a long-sleeved black top.
The pair sat together on a sofa in what appeared to be his study. There was a bookshelf in front of them. It was filled with the numerous awards that Nicholson had won, including several Oscars and Golden Globes.
For Lorraine, her close bond with her dad played a role in her decision to pursue acting.
“He’s my mentor,” she told Us Weekly in 2011. “I’m going into the family business because we’re so close, and he’s such an inspiration. I admire him.”
Other photos from the roundup, captioned “the giving season,” included a group selfie with Lorraine’s 32-year-old brother Ray Nicholson. Ray has also become an actor, just like his father, and recently appeared in the movie “Smile 2.”
Lorraine and Ray are two of Jack Nicholson’s children. Jack’s ex-partner, Rebecca Broussard, is Lorraine’s mother, and Ray’s father is Jack. The actor from “The Shining” has four children from previous relationships with different women: Jennifer Nicholson (61), Caleb Goddard (54), Honey Hollman (42), and Tessa Gourin (30).
It is rare to see Nicholson, as he has mostly retreated from public life in recent years. Since his most recent film, the 2010 rom-com “How Do You Know,” which starred Reese Witherspoon, Paul Rudd, and Owen Wilson, he hasn’t appeared in any other projects.
The actor from “A Few Good Men” hasn’t been to a film set in over ten years, but he has attended many Los Angeles Lakers basketball games. The most recent time he went was in 2021 to support the NBA team.
“Jack seemed happy to be back!” a source told E! News at the time. “He’s always sitting right next to the Lakers’ bench! He looked great and was really into the game, watching every play intently!”
