That morning had begun normally: heavy clouds, a steady current, the occasional cries of seagulls. Rowan steered the boat into unfamiliar waters—recent storms had significantly altered the seabed there. As he lowered the nets, he felt a sharp tug—as if something enormous had snagged beneath them.
