Lily had a common childhood habit: every morning before getting out of bed, she would look under it. This way, she could be sure there were no monsters in the dark.
But one morning, she saw something real.
Lying against the wall were five identical, smooth objects, like giant eggs. Their surfaces shimmered strangely, and something seemed to be moving inside.
Terrified, Lily called her parents. Oscar decided to check the find himself. When he touched one of the objects, he immediately pulled his hand back. The shell was so hot, as if a powerful energy source were working inside.
His father called a specialist.
The specialist arrived a few minutes later, but instead of immediately examining the room, he pulled out a black folder. It contained a photograph of nearly identical objects.
“Do they look the same?” he asked.
Oscar nodded.
Seeing his reaction, the specialist turned pale and rushed upstairs. He shone the flashlight under the bed, stared silently into the darkness for a few seconds, and then shouted, “Leave immediately! The entire block needs to be evacuated!”
Soon, armed officers and people in hazmat suits appeared around the house. Unknown vehicles blocked the street. They tried to push Oscar away from his family, and when he resisted, they overpowered him and handcuffed him.
Hilly and Lily were taken away in one car, Oscar in another.
A few hours later, the man found himself in a secret underground complex. Researcher Alex met him there.
“Your daughter is in critical condition,” he said. “After she left the house, an unknown biological agent began to attack her nervous system.”
“Is it a virus?”
“No. And conventional medications are useless here.”
The only chance to save Lily was an experimental procedure using her father’s blood.
Oscar was rushed to the medical ward. The girl was unconscious, and the doctors started a transfusion. For several minutes, her condition continued to deteriorate.
Then, the monitors suddenly began to stabilize.
Lily had survived.
But Oscar demanded to know what exactly was under the bed.
Alex placed a non-disclosure agreement in front of him.
After signing it, he finally told the truth.
The five objects did not belong to any known animal. They were not of terrestrial origin.
They were the eggs of an extraterrestrial creature.
But the worst was yet to come.
Scientists believed that someone had deliberately hidden them under Lily’s bed while the family slept.
The house was subsequently destroyed and filled with concrete. The family was given new documents and housed in a secret shelter.
Since then, Oscar has been checking under his daughter’s bed every night.
Only now he’s not checking for monsters.
He’s afraid to find that someone has returned for their eggs.
