Avril Lavigne has always been determined to forge her path. She released her debut album at just 17 and dropped out of high school to pursue a full-time music career.

Although Lavigne’s fame skyrocketed, her stardom did not protect her from the blows life dealt her later on. In 2014, the typically energetic Avril Lavigne felt like she’d been hit by a train. She didn’t even have enough energy to jump in the pool with her friends. Lavigne told People that she had no appetite, felt lightheaded and lethargic, and had no idea what was wrong with her. After struggling to get to the bottom of her health issues, she was finally diagnosed with Lyme disease. 

Avril Lavigne went through a divorce while being bedridden with Lyme disease. In 2015, Lavigne told People that her mom and then-husband, Nickelback frontman Chad Kroeger, were helping to care for her. However, Kroeger struggled to be there for her always due to touring. It is unclear if Lavigne’s Lyme disease caused her split from Kroeger. Lavigne announced their divorce on Instagram in September 2015. 

Despite the unfortunate timing, Lavigne and Kroeger remained friends.

Lavigne’s third engagement ended in a breakup.

Lavigne and Mod Sun began working together on music for her album ‘Love Sux’ and quickly hit it off. The couple fell in love quickly and engaged in March 2022 while on vacation in Paris.

However, rumors of trouble in paradise began to circulate in 2023. In February of that year, someone close to Lavigne confirmed to Us Weekly that she had broken off the engagement.
