Melania Trump was criticized for her fashion choices as a first lady. Her modeling background was evident in her well-worn outfits.

However, her expensive taste and focus on appearance may have seemed insensitive to some.

At Rosalynn Carter’s memorial service, Melania’s attire raised a few eyebrows. In 2023, Melania joined First Lady Jill Biden and the other three living former first ladies – Hillary Clinton, Michelle Obama, and Laura Bush – to pay their respects to ex-president Jimmy Carter’s late wife. However, some detractors found her behavior disrespectful. Melania stood out when the group of presidential spouses walked into Glenn Memorial United Methodist Church in Atlanta together. While the other women wore black ensembles, Melania chose to wear a gray tweed coat instead of the traditional mourning color.

Melania’s lighter-colored outfit stands out in photos of the church pews full of mourners.

During her first overseas trip as first lady, Melania Trump wore a massive gold belt from Saint Laurent, some considered ostentatious. She also wore a black Stella McCartney jumpsuit, Christian Louboutin stilettos, and a chunky gold chain necklace.

Despite observing that she was not adhering to the country’s dress code for female citizens by not wearing a headscarf, she did not offend her hosts, as foreign visitors are not expected to follow this rule.

Additionally, she wore fur after attending a PETA fashion show.

Melania Trump’s brief love for faux fur ended quickly. The following year, she attended the opening of a Dennis Basso Furs store wearing a fur stole draped over her arms. A photo of the stole was included in a collection of images by HuffPost, showing Melania wearing fur.

Tiffany Trump’s choice of wedding attire was criticized.

The guest list for her Mar-a-Lago wedding included her parents, Marla Maples and Donald Trump, and her stepmother, Melania Trump. It is worth noting that while Melania met Donald while he was married to Maples, there was no scandalous affair, as Tiffany’s parents had already separated by then. Tiffany supported her dad’s new marriage by posing for a wedding photo with her mother and stepmother by her side.

However, some of Tiffany’s family members managed to steal the spotlight from her on her special day in typical Trumpian fashion. Ivanka Trump caused a stir by editing a wedding photo posted on Instagram. Melania’s decision to wear a cream-colored dress was decried as inappropriate on social media. Wearing white to a wedding is considered bad etiquette by many, as it can come off as an attempt to upstage the bride.

She made people care about her unconcerned coat.

During her visit to a Texas detention center for migrant children, Melania Trump wore a green Zara jacket with the words ‘I don’t care, do u?’ printed on the back. This fashion statement was widely criticized for being insensitive to the plight of the children she was visiting.

According to White House correspondent Katie Rogers, Melania agreed with the ‘fake news’ explanation after Donald Trump tweeted it out.
