2013 Erin Andrews was covering the Daytona 500 in Florida when rapper 50 Cent kissed her. Andrews had just happened to run into 50 Cent while trying to find Danica Patrick. Meanwhile, Andrews attempted to dodge the rapper’s lips.
After hearing about it, 50 Cent later tweeted, “Hey, I wanted to kiss her, so I did.” Andrews told her side of the story a few months later, taking some blame. “It was my fault!” she told Access Hollywood. “I was rushed – none of the drivers were in their spot for the Daytona 500 pit walk.”
The Leg Syndrome
Fox News anchor Kimberly Guilfoyle is always in the news. She’s one of the network’s most famous anchors, and they always show her legs on live TV. Guilfoyle’s legs have been known to distract the audience and her fellow news anchors! Due to Twitter comments, she’s needed to switch to something more modest multiple times while on Fox. It may be time to bring in a pantsuit or two!
On August 22, 2020, the weather woman of the Australian news program Today Extra, Belinda Russell, walked onto the set wearing a bodysuit that appeared nudity. Why on Earth would anyone wear such a thing? Russell didn’t have a good answer. She said the next day that she has her style and isn’t a typical weather presenter who only wears dresses. She said it wouldn’t have been so controversial if the outfit had been a different color. She also said she should have checked it before the weather wall first.
A Mistake at Work
Nothing is worse than messing up at work. In 2014, Four Seasons of Toronto Wine Director Emily Walker went on a local Canadian news program to talk about upcoming holiday events at the hotel. While there, she was also meant to demonstrate how to use a knife to open a champagne bottle. But things could have gone better! On her first try, Walker broke the bottle, soaking her and host Steve Darling with champagne. Most people would quit, but not Walker! She tried again, but the knife hit the bottle too early, and it exploded, covering both Walker and Darling in foam and wine. The show didn’t invite her back.
Charissa Thompson’s Blunder
Thompson started at ESPN in the early 2000s. She later co-hosted SportsNation with Marcellus Wiley. Thompson left the network in 2013. Before leaving, she gave us one of the best news anchor bloopers ever!
The Sleeping Beauty
News anchors and crews work long hours. They try to stay awake, but sometimes they fall asleep. Even worse, the show returned without waking them!
Giraffe Won’t Take No for An Answer
Any news reporter will tell you that live TV is always challenging, but real animals make it much more! Sometimes, even an adorable animal like a giraffe can become unpredictable and make field reporters think on their feet. Just ask Ashley Jacobs!
Jacobs was reporting live from the San Diego Safari Park when a baby giraffe got too friendly with the journalist. While Jacobs tried to push the baby giraffe away, it kept nuzzling her and trying to eat her mic. Her co-anchors back in the studio were giggling.
The Perfect Perch
Many people think local news is for the birds. KFMB, a San Diego news station, had a little animal mishap on air. Anchor Nichelle Medina was reporting on an animal at the San Diego Zoo when one of the guests, 10-year-old Sophie, a scarlet ibis, came on air unannounced.
In a surprising turn of events, Sophie flew into the live shot, almost hitting Medina in the eye. She then perched on Medina’s head. Moments later, she took off again, this time in the direction of Medina’s co-anchor, Eric Kahnert. Thankfully, the animal trainer regained control of the bird. With sharp nails, this could have been dangerous!
