It is anticipated that Emmanuel Amuneke, a former forward for the Super Eagles, will resume his coaching duties after approximately one year without involvement.
The former Tanzania coach has previously assisted Samson Siasia and Augustine Equavoen in their roles with the national team.
Amunike’s final role was with Zambia’s Zanaco FC, where he served as coach and consultant until his departure in 2023. He recently applied for the role of head coach of the Super Eagles, but the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) selected Finidi George as the preferred candidate.
According to reports from Owerri, Amunike is in the final stages of negotiations to join Heartland, which plans to return to the elite NPFL next season. Additionally, the report indicated that Amuneke, who has been discreetly engaged in recruitment activities with his hometown club, has commenced the process of assembling a roster for the forthcoming season.
Heartland FC was relegated to the NPFL after finishing 19th on the 20-team table last season. The club is reportedly planning to purchase the NPFL slot of Beyond Limits, who earned promotion from the Nigeria National League (NNL) but face participation issues due to their affiliation with Remo Stars. Amuneke, 53, has extensive coaching experience in domestic and international football.
