Bobby Sherman’s wife has announced that he has cancer. She has also thanked his fans for remembering the former teen idol.
On March 25, Poublon shared news of his health battle on Facebook.
“We are very sad to tell you that Bobby has recently been diagnosed with stage 4 cancer. We ask for your understanding and respect for our privacy during this difficult time. Thank you for still remembering him. We appreciate it.”
Sherman became a teen idol in the 1960s and early 1970s. This was thanks to Sal Mineo, who starred in the film Rebel Without a Cause. Mineo helped Sherman secure a recording contract, eventually leading to his job on the music show Shindig! in 1964. Four years later, he got the role of Jeremy in the 1968 Western series Here Comes the Brides.
Dave Coulier says that telling his wife about his cancer diagnosis felt like he had punched her in the chest.
During his career, Sherman had several chart-topping hits, including “Little Woman,” which reached No. 3 on the Billboard Hot 100. While he toured over the years, Sherman performed his last solo show in 2001.
After appearing on the TV show Emergency! in 1974, Sherman decided to change career and trained as a paramedic in Los Angeles. He then worked as a medical training officer at the Los Angeles Police Academy for over 10 years. In the 1990s, he became a technical reserve police officer for the Los Angeles Police Department.
He stopped working for the sheriff’s department in 2010.
