A woman goes missing in the ocean. Four years later, she was found. Everyone is shocked!
Fishermen discovered the Colombian woman off the coast of Puerto Colombia on Saturday, September 26.
Angelica Gaitan, a 46-year-old woman, had not been in contact with her family for two years when she was sighted by fishermen approximately two miles out to sea, as reported by La Libertad. Initially, it was hypothesized that a log might be visible in the distance; however, upon closer inspection, it became apparent that Gaitan was raising her arms aloft.
Fisherman Rolando Visbal appealed to Gaitan, who was situated within a rubber ring in both Spanish and English. However, she was unable to respond, as evidenced by a video of the incident.
Visbal then assisted her on board the vessel, and they proceeded to the shore, where she was escorted to a seated position. The men provided her with water and requested that she provide them with her name, but she was unable to respond.
Subsequently, following the provision of medical assistance to Gaitan at a hospital facility, she provided a detailed account of her whereabouts over the preceding two years and the circumstances that had led her to the ocean.
Gaitan explained that her initial disappearance occurred when she escaped an abusive relationship in September 2018. She stated that she had been living on the streets for six months before seeking assistance from the Women’s Office in Barranquilla.
In light of the abuse she suffered, protection measures were implemented to ensure the safety of the subject and prevent contact with her ex-partner. However, on Friday, she was informed that, due to her former partner’s relocation to another city, she could no longer remain at the shelter.
Gaitan stated that she had subsequently reached the decision to end her own life and proceeded to the beach.
The woman is currently receiving treatment at a medical facility, and efforts have been made to facilitate communication with her family members in Bogotá.
