Claire Segeren and Cal Hunter are a couple. They had a whole year together when Claire decided to take a year off from studying medicine. Ultimately, they both made a decision.
The two of them decided to buy a house at an auction, but before they did, they conducted research and visited the sites. Cal then placed a bid on the property they wanted to buy. He won the auction and got a 120-year-old manor!
They knew a fire had damaged the property, so they already knew there would be a lot of work to repair it.
Unfortunately, when they got there, they were disappointed to see that the photo was very old-fashioned.
At the same time, the roof arrived, and it had huge gaps in it. No one had lived in the manor for the past twenty years, as most of the wood had rotted away.
They also knew that the plumbing and electrics would need to be replaced.
They later discovered that the house was sinking into the ground. It was clear that this place would be difficult.
Cal and Claire were not going to give up despite facing numerous challenges. They were ready to make it into a lovely home.
However, they were in for a shock when they realized they didn’t have the necessary funds to complete the project. They knew they would have to get creative to afford it.
The two of them rolled their sleeves up and started working. They planned to live in a caravan on the property’s land for the duration of the project, so they rented a caravan and parked it in the garden.
To document their progress, the couple started a blog and an Instagram page.
They post regularly so that when they celebrate small milestones, such as installing the electrical grid or taking care of the plumbing, their followers and fans can join in.
Recently, the couple posted this photo on their Instagram account to thank their followers, as they had just reached 100 followers!
They asked a few of their friends for help. For example, they got help clearing the dirt off the pavement.
To locate the water supply, they also had to dig it up, which proved to be more difficult than they had thought. It even took five months to find a cable that would allow them to power the grid!
The people who live here have always been very kind and helpful, although some thought they were crazy for doing so.
In addition to considering how to finance it, Cal and Claire aimed to design this building in an environmentally responsible manner.
Therefore, they have chosen to use materials that have been salvaged from old buildings in this sense.
In early March, Claire and Cal finally got the electricity working on their property. It was a truly fantastic achievement! But it was a big step forward for both of them.
As time passed, spring gave way to summer. This meant that Cal and Claire had many friends visiting them from the UK and other parts of the world.
But their friends didn’t come to watch the couple work all day. Many of them decided to dedicate a significant amount of their time to helping the two of them with their massive project.
Claire posted updates to their blog at every stage of the process.
Even if it starts as an accident, it could be the best thing you’ve ever done!
If Claire and Cal’s amazing story inspires and motivates anyone, it will show that anything is possible, even when you don’t think it’s.
