Sydney Sweeney made a splash on the red carpet of the 77th Emmy Awards. The actress appeared in a bright Oscar de la Renta dress with a long train and a deep heart-shaped neckline. She completed the look with drop earrings, a necklace, and a miniature ring on her little finger.

However, it was not only the cut of the outfit that attracted the public’s attention, but also its color. Many perceived the scarlet dress as a political hint, given the recent scandals surrounding the star.

Recall that Sweeney starred in an American Eagle advertising campaign, where she said the phrase “I’ve got great jeans” in the video, which in English sounds like a play on words with “genes”. Critics saw this as a reference to eugenics, a discredited idea associated with racist movements. Moreover, after the campaign, the actress was unexpectedly supported by Donald Trump, which further fueled rumors about her sympathies for the right.

Therefore, many considered the choice of a red dress demonstrative. Comments appeared on social networks:

“Sweeney in a red dress – as if this is not an accident.”

“Either she is completely out of touch with the moment, or she is deliberately showing her political position. After the scandal with eugenics, coming in bright red is a very strange choice.”

However, not everyone was so critical. There were many fans who admired the actress’s image:

“Sydney Sweeney is dazzling at the 2025 Emmys.”

“She literally lit up this fiery outfit – a real queen!”

It is worth noting that Sweeney is not nominated for an award this year, but will take the stage as a host of the segment. Other announced presenters include Sarah Paulson, Evan Peters, Jenna Ortega, Sofia Vergara, Stephen Colbert, Elizabeth Banks, and Eric Dane.

The latter in particular has attracted attention: this is one of his first public appearances since he announced his ALS (amyotrophic lateral sclerosis) diagnosis in the spring of 2025. In an interview with Good Morning America, Dane said: “My right side has completely stopped working, my left side is still functioning. I feel like in a few months I could lose that too. It’s hard to wrap my head around.” At the same time, the actor added that he is not going to give up: “I want to spend time with my family and work as much as I can. I don’t think my story is over yet. In my heart, I feel like this is not the end.”
