For many homeless people, everyday life is tough. But one young woman decided to address her situation with her imagination and determination. After experiencing some bad luck, she decided that instead of just getting by, she would be creative and make her own space. She had no home, but she was clever. She used cardboard boxes and glue to make a small hut.
It might look like a pile of boxes from the outside, but inside, there’s a well-designed space. It’s more than just a shelter—it represents the strength and intelligence of people. Even though the materials used are simple, the space has been made to feel like a home, warm and full of character.
The sleeping area is practical but straightforward: a bare mattress lies on the floor, surrounded by cardboard walls to keep the heat in. The design is surprisingly comfortable, showing that even simple materials can feel nice when you put some thought and care into them.
In the lounge area, there is a sofa made from cardboard boxes filled with sandbags to keep it in shape. Old cushions are placed on top, which makes it a comfortable and cosy place to sit and relax. Even though the materials are limited, the space feels normal and creative.
It shows how even things that are thrown away can be used to make something useful, personal, and with character. This home shows that if you are resilient and imaginative, you can make any space feel like a haven. Caroline has been working hard to save money to rent an apartment again, but she says it’s been fairly comfortable in the temporary cardboard home she’s made for herself.
