Aluminum foil has long been an indispensable kitchen tool. However, its uses aren’t limited to packaging food or baking. This simple material can significantly simplify cleaning and help keep your kitchen in tip-top condition.

1. Protect your oven from stains

Cleaning your oven of burnt-on grease and food drips can often be a tedious chore. To reduce cleaning, line the bottom rack of your oven with a sheet of foil. It will collect drips of grease and food debris that accumulate during cooking. As the sheet gets dirty, replace it with a new one. Important: Do not place foil directly on the oven floor or cover the heating elements, as this can cause overheating and create a fire hazard.

2. Remove stubborn stains from cookware and grill grates

Crumple foil into a tight ball and use it to remove dried-on food residue from metal surfaces. Wet the grill grate with water and rub it with the ball – carbon deposits and grease will come off much more easily.

This method also works for metal pots and pans without a non-stick coating. For added effectiveness, sprinkle the stained area with baking soda or salt, then rub it with a damp ball of foil.

3. Restore shine to chrome surfaces

Foil helps combat rust and stains on chrome faucets and kitchen appliances. To do this, fold a piece of foil in several layers, wet it with clean water, and gently rub it over the damaged area.

As you clean, the rust will gradually peel off, restoring the surface’s shine.

4. Simplify stovetop maintenance

If you have a gas stove or a model with open burners, foil will help prevent stubborn stains. Place it carefully around the burners to catch oil drips and food residue.

This solution significantly reduces cleaning time. However, protective sheets should be changed regularly and monitored while preparing food.

5. Quickly clean silverware

Tarnished silverware can be restored without special polishes. To do this, you will need a heat-resistant container, aluminum foil, hot water, baking soda, and salt.

Line the bottom of the container with foil, then pour in hot water and dissolve 2 tablespoons of baking soda and salt. Place the silverware in the solution, ensuring it is submerged and touching the foil.

After a few minutes, a chemical reaction occurs, removing the tarnish and restoring the silverware to its clean, shiny state. If necessary, repeat the process or increase the volume of the solution to clean more items at once.
