Nick Berry, once one of the most recognizable faces on British television in the 1980s and 1990s, has now built a quiet life far removed from the fame that once surrounded him.
Best known for playing Simon Wicks in EastEnders and later PC Nick Rowan in Heartbeat, Berry became a major TV heartthrob during his peak years. He joined EastEnders in its early days in 1985, appearing alongside some of the show’s most iconic characters. His popularity grew quickly, with many fans admiring him both on screen and off, often gathering around filming locations in hopes of catching a glimpse of him.
Despite the attention, Berry’s personal focus remained on his private life. He met his future wife, Rachel Robertson, in the late 1980s, and the two formed a strong relationship that eventually led to marriage in 1994. Together they raised two sons, Louis and Finley, and family life gradually became his priority over acting.
By the time he was 39, Berry made the decision to withdraw from full-time television work. He has since spoken about how becoming a father shifted his outlook, especially because he often found it difficult to be away from home while filming. While he has occasionally reflected on the possibility of returning to screen work, he has also made it clear that he is content with the life he chose away from acting.
During his career, Berry is believed to have earned a significant fortune from his television success. After stepping back from acting, he explored work behind the scenes and founded a production company, Valentine Productions, based at Pinewood Studios. The company was involved in several television projects, including BBC productions such as Harbor Lights and In Deep, where Berry also appeared in acting roles during the early 2000s.
However, the production venture eventually came to an end. Records show that he resigned as a director in 2019, and the company was formally closed in 2020.
Today, Nick Berry maintains a low-profile lifestyle, focusing on family and staying out of the public eye, far removed from the celebrity status he once held.
