Tyler Christopher, a star of ‘General Hospital,’ died at the age of 50 due to positional asphyxia caused by acute alcohol intoxication. This means that he suffocated due to his position while intoxicated. The Medical Examiner Office’s report, obtained by TMZ on Friday, confirms this.
Coronary artery atherosclerosis, the buildup of plaque inside the arteries, was listed as a contributing factor.
His death was ruled accidental.
Page Six confirmed Christopher’s death on October 31, 2023. His representative stated, ‘This news was incredibly shocking, and I am devastated by his loss.’
The representative continued, ‘He was a gifted actor and, more importantly, an amazing friend. My heart goes out to his loved ones.’
Maurice Benard, Christopher’s co-star and longtime friend on ‘General Hospital,’ announced Tyler’s death on Instagram the same night.
Benard praised Tyler’s talent and ability to bring his fans joy through his acting.
Tyler was kind-hearted and a great friend to everyone who knew him.
Benard commended Christopher for his mental health and substance abuse advocacy. Christopher openly spoke about his struggles with bipolar depression and alcohol.
In 2022, he admitted losing his job at General Hospital due to his alcohol abuse.
Losing his job was devastating for a myriad of reasons.
Firstly, the thing he loved the most was taken away. Secondly, he threw it away. Nobody took it away from him. He dropped it.
Christopher was arrested for allegedly napping on the ground of a South Carolina airport while intoxicated months before his death.
His two children, Greysun James Christopher and Boheme Christopher survive him.
