“No!” “This can’t be!” Bill cried out, his voice bouncing off the trees. He was amazed. It was Daisy, one of his favorite cows. He thought he lost her eight months ago.

Bill remembered when Daisy went missing.

The day he started like any other. Bill was in the fields at dawn, working.

He checked on the cows in the south pasture.

He was amazed.

“One, two, three, four…” Bill started counting. This can’t be real. He saw something was wrong. Every morning, he looked for Daisy. They were bonded. They had a morning ritual. They ran to each other.

There was silence this morning. The cows were quiet. Daisy wasn’t there.

He ran to the barn, hoping to find Daisy.

He went to the fields where Daisy liked to wander. He looked for her everywhere. Daisy wasn’t there. What’s going on?

He didn’t want anything to happen to her.

He raised her as a calf, and she became a friend.

Bill asked for help finding Daisy. He made posters with Daisy’s picture and hung them all over town.

Daisy was still missing.

Eight months later, Bill woke up to spring. The ice melted, and the sun shone after months of cold. He went outside to enjoy the air. His heart beat faster as he saw something in the distance. Could it be? Bill saw a dark shape coming up the hill. It was Daisy! Bill was amazed. Has Daisy come back after all this time?

Bill stopped and looked at the cow.

He moved closer, afraid of making a sound.

“Daisy?” he called. Bill was waiting for her to hug his cow again. That didn’t happen, and the cow didn’t react as he expected.

Her ears twitched at the voice. She looked at him.

She didn’t come over to say hello. She looked at Bill with doubt in her eyes.

He looked her over for any signs of illness. She looked healthy and well-fed. Why was she acting strange?

He took a few steps forward, crushing leaves. Bill saw something that scared him. His face turned pale, and he felt sick.

“How is that possible?” he whispered.

As he moved closer, he heard a strange sound. A new sound came from where Daisy was watching.

The strange noises got louder and mixed with faint bleats. Bill was confused. Is it a baby?

Bill looked over Daisy’s shoulder. Bill saw what his cow was guarding. It was an animal, but he didn’t know what kind.

The creature’s gaze was wild.

He wanted to comfort it. It cried out in fear.

He had to stay strong. He was ready to do whatever it took.

Bill stayed calm and tried to calm the animal.

Animal rescue arrived as the sun was setting. Bill led them to the barn. He was happy.

The team checked on the animal. The team’s expressions grew severe after examining the animal.

Bill’s heart pounded as he approached the animal rescue team with the creature.

“It’s a wolf pup.” We are still determining how it arrived, but your cow has taken it in.

The animal services team let him visit with supervision.

Bill entered the enclosure, and the wolf pup ran to him. Bill was surprised to find that the wolf pup was now more comfortable around humans.

Bill knew things would never be the same on the farm again.

When the wolf pup was ready, Bill released him. He knew what to do. This wolf had found a home on his farm, so he couldn’t just take it away.

When the wolf pup was ready to leave, Bill was there. They went back to his farm.

Bill watched Daisy come back to the south pasture. The cow was happy to see the wolf pup she had protected.

Bill knew he had made the right choice. The cow and wolf were bonded, and the pup was now part of his farm. He would take care of it forever.
