Nigerian activist Aisha Yesufu said she’ll campaign against Peter Obi if he runs for vice president in 2027.

In a video posted on Monday, September 16, Yesufu asked why the most qualified people are often pushed into secondary roles. She also challenged Obi’s reported willingness to be a vice president under another candidate.

Obi, who’s running for president in 2023, had already said he’d work with other politicians, including Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP). He said, “I’m ready to work with anyone interested in lifting people out of poverty.” He added that collaboration should focus on improving citizens’ lives, not just winning elections.

Obi clarified his position in an interview with News Central, stating, “To be honest, I’m not desperate to be Nigerian president.” I’m eager to see Nigeria succeed. “If I see someone who can do the job better, I’ll go with them.”

However, he recently said that reports suggesting he would accept a vice presidential role were wrong.

Obi made it clear that he wants to focus on something other than the 2027 election while Nigerians face hunger, poverty, insecurity, and other urgent issues.
