Gwyneth Paltrow grew up with famous parents, so she knew how to raise children who could never live an everyday life. However, her transformation from a baby whose name was constantly laughed at into a slightly scandalous socialite has had its moments.

You couldn’t see her, but Apple made her big screen debut in the 2005 thriller Proof. Her mum was pregnant with her during filming. Paltrow almost died while giving birth, but it was Apple’s dad, Coldplay frontman Chris Martin, who was given the honor of naming the baby. 

Apple Blythe Alison Martin was born on 14 May 2004. 

In July 2005, she was photographed with her mum at the Live 8 London concert. She became a toddler fashion icon by wearing pink noise-canceling earmuffs while her dad and his band played on stage. While Paltrow focused on her daughter’s linguistic education, Chris Martin took charge of her music schooling.

Apple started meeting famous people when she was young, and she once sat in a stroller with Madonna. In 2008, she was seen having fun at a playdate in the Hamptons with Madonna’s son, David Banda.

Apple also spent much time with her grandmother, Blythe Danner, an actress. Her grandmother gave Apple her first middle name. 

Apple Martin’s childhood was very unusual. She often went to Paris with her mum, went on a family holiday in Italy with Steven Spielberg (the director of E.T.), and skipped school to relax. 

In 2014, her parents, Gwyneth Paltrow and Chris Martin, decided to separate but still co-parent healthily. They also started letting Apple be more involved in their careers. In 2016, Apple and her little brother sang “Up&Up” with Coldplay in front of a massive crowd at the Glastonbury Music Festival. 

Fans of Taylor Swift and Beyoncé argue about who the best pop star is, and Apple Martin was involved in both camps. In 2016, Gwyneth Paltrow revealed on “My Favorite Song with John Benjamin Hickey” that her daughter was a big Taylor Swift fan and talked about the first time they went to one of the singer’s concerts together. 

While Swift got Paltrow’s approval, the actor may be more partial to Beyoncé. The two women are good friends, and their girls had a similar rapport in 2016. When Apple celebrated her 12th birthday that year, Beyoncé’s oldest daughter, Blue Ivy, partied with her.

She started to take songwriting and humor seriously.

When Gwyneth Paltrow appeared on “The Rachael Ray Show” in 2019, she described Apple as a “singer-songwriter.” Apple proved that was true in 2021 when she worked with Selena Gomez on a song. The track “Let Somebody Go” is on the Coldplay album “Music of the Spheres.”

While Apple was showing some interest in following in Chris Martin’s footsteps, she also displayed a talent better suited for her mom’s profession: the ability to make audiences laugh. In a 2021 video shared on the Goop TikTok account, Apple made fun of her mom’s daily routine. 

Apple Martin graduated from high school in 2022 and decided to attend Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tennessee. 

After moving out, she also started using her parents’ connections differently. In 2023, she went to Paris for Fashion Week and attended her first fashion show. It was a Chanel event, so she wore a look from the luxury brand: a cropped tweed coat and matching minidress featuring a black-and-white plaid print.

After this, Martin was interviewed by Vogue magazine, where she talked about her unique personal style. 

As Martin grew older, it became clear that she had much more in common with Paltrow than just her looks.

In 2024, Apple Martin was introduced to high society at Le Bal des Débutantes, an exclusive, invitation-only event attended by the children of famous and wealthy people. Past nepo baby debutantes include Reese Witherspoon and Ryan Phillippe’s daughter, Ava Phillippe, and “The Substance” star Margaret Qualley, whose mom is Andie MacDowell.
