I don’t want to upset anyone, but you might want to watch it with a man. Brit and John Richards have been married for almost nine years, but Brit has only just learned how John showers.
He is wearing a T-shirt with many faces and standing in a warehouse-like setting, posing playfully. Brit did just that, and John demonstrated his showering routine for TikTok.In the video, which has been watched over 3 million times, Brit says, “I’m just so upset. I found out how my husband washes his body in the shower.”Then she asks John to explain how he showers. He says he washes his beard first and shows what he does. Brit asks him to show how hard he works, so he rubs his hands more vigorously on his beard and head. Next, John explains that he uses a little bit of Aleavia Coastal Woodlands body wash, and what he does next makes Brit admit she is “scared for her life.”He then shows what the “triangle” is.
Casually dressed in a cap, John performs a gesture with his hands at waist level to clean the area straight across the lower part of the belly. Then, he uses force to clean down the sides of the pubic bone to the crotch. After I asked him to stop the demonstration twice, John finally stopped the ‘triangle’ and moved on to his final step: ‘THE AMEX.’
“You get out your Mastercard, and then you AMEX,” John confidently says, demonstrating how he cleans in between his buttocks using a credit card-swiping motion.
Confused about how that is the end of the shower, Brit asks, “…You don’t even wash your pits?”John thinks about it briefly and shrugs, saying, “Sometimes.”
The video ends with Brit’s final thoughts and conclusion: “YOU CAN’T LIVE HERE ANYMORE.”People called out John for his simplified shower method:
Many acknowledged that he probably showers more thoroughly than a lot of men:
Brit even made a lighthearted response video after some people said she needed to start showering with John to supervise.
Brit said she had always assumed most men lather from head to toe. “Although it’s taboo — as I’ve learned through the thousands of comments on the viral video — we don’t regularly shower together. We both love our showers in peace, and we’re very routine-oriented people, so it never dawned on me that half of the country showers simultaneously, just bumping into each other trying to reach for the shampoo. He showers every morning like clockwork, so I never questioned if he was clean,” she added.
The couple also owns SMEAR, which makes skincare products from grass-fed and finished beef tallow. “Since we started our company in 2020, John has got on board with a more natural lifestyle. As a society, we are too clean. We are so grossed out by ourselves because we’re too hygienic. We use hand sanitizer all the time. “Our skin can suffer terribly because we wash too much. Washing your skin too often makes it unhealthy. We need to change the way we think about cleanliness. In our country, we love to use the carwash method to take a shower. But your skin’s microbiome is your body’s natural protection system. So, even though it’s shocking to watch someone do the ‘triangle,’ it makes the most sense!” You can read more about John and Brit’s products made from beef tallow here. Finally, John clarified that he does not plan to change his shower routine because it works for him.”I refuse to let millions of people sway my triangle-shower method. It works,” he laughed.
