A source has revealed that the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Nyesom Wike, defended himself during a recent meeting of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), which included governors, former governors, and members of the National Working Committee (NWC).

The meeting, held on May 11 in Abuja, was convened by PDP governors in response to the ongoing crisis within the party. Following the session, Bauchi State Governor and Chairman of the PDP Governors Forum, Bala Mohammed, announced that former Senate President Bukola Saraki would head the reconciliation committee.

According to the source, Wike addressed questions regarding his decision not to support Atiku Abubakar in the 2023 election. He also denied making any promise to deliver the FCT to the PDP in 2027.

The source further explained that Wike clarified he had not been involved in any anti-party activities in 2023, stating he had simply declined to support Atiku but had ensured the success of all PDP candidates, from governors to national and state assembly members.

Wike proudly claimed no other serving PDP governor delivered as much for the party in 2023. He challenged anyone who believed he had engaged in anti-party activities to provide evidence. Furthermore, when questioned about his supposed commitment to deliver the FCT to the APC in 2027, Wike denied ever making such a statement and demanded proof of when or where he had said so.

The source also confirmed that certain NWC members met with Saraki and the Plateau State Governor on Monday to discuss the National Secretary issue. It was revealed that the committee had identified the reasons behind recent defections and devised a strategy to address the situation, including resolving the matter regarding the National Secretary. The source added that Anyanwu had been cleared by Saraki’s committee and had resumed duties the previous day.
