For most people, mushroom season means a basket, a trip to the forest, and a dinner featuring potatoes. However, some mushrooms carry price tags that completely change your perspective on "quiet hunting." Buyers are willing to pay thousands—and in some cases, over $100,000—per kilogram for certain rare varieties. Here is a look at the most expensive types and what makes them so valuable. 1. Morels — up to $500 per kilogram. Morels appear in the spring. Their wrinkled caps feature a pattern resembling a small honeycomb, making them easy to spot amidst forest vegetation.
