The public poured their hearts out on social media after Princess Kate announced her cancer diagnosis. Many apologized for spreading false conspiracy theories and speculation about her whereabouts and health, while others wished her a full recovery. Some of the stars who have sent their best wishes to Kate have been living with some form of cancer themselves.

In her heartfelt video on Friday, March 22, Kate explained why she has been noticeably absent from the public eye since undergoing abdominal surgery in January.

“It’s been an incredibly tough few months for our whole family, but I’ve had a fantastic medical team looking after me, and I’m so grateful for that,” she said before noting, “In January, I underwent major abdominal surgery in London and at the time it was thought my condition was non-cancerous. Surgery was a success. However, post-operative tests revealed that cancer was present. My medical team recommended that I undergo a course of preventive chemotherapy, and I am now in the early stages of this treatment.

Kate noted that coming to terms with the diagnosis “has taken time” to “recover from major surgery to begin my treatment. Most importantly, it has taken time to explain everything to George, Charlotte, and Louis in an appropriate way and to reassure them that I will be OK.

Responding to Kate’s official Instagram video post, Olivia – who recently revealed her breast cancer diagnosis – wrote: “Thank you for showing what it’s like to fight for yourself and your family with grace and determination. I wish you all the best.”

“We have all just heard the terrible news,” Karine said during a press briefing. “Our thoughts are with the Duchess of Cambridge and her family and friends at this tough time, and we certainly wish her a full recovery.”
