According to a report from Soccernet. Ng, Peter Etebo, a former member of the Nigerian national team, the Super Eagles, has completed a transfer to Genclerbirligi, a second-division club in Turkey.
Etebo’s professional career has experienced a steep decline in recent years. The midfielder appeared to be Nigeria’s most promising young talent following his exemplary performance with the country’s under-23 team at the 2015 U-23 Africa Cup of Nations, where he scored five goals.
That performance was the impetus for his subsequent relocation to Europe, following a period of association with the Nigerian league side Warri Wolves. In January 2018, Feirense engaged Etebo. By June, he had already finalized his transfer to Stoke City.
Despite the challenges, the combative 28-year-old midfielder, Etebo, remained determined. He did not receive sufficient playing time and was subsequently loaned to Stoke City, Getafe, Galatasaray, Watford, and Aris Saloniki on multiple occasions before his contract expired in 2023.
Subsequently, following the expiration of his contract with Stoke City, Etebo has been without a club. However, this situation has now transformed.
The Turkish second-division club Genclerbirligi has officially announced that Etebo has signed a two-year contract with the club.
The Super Eagles star becomes the tenth Nigerian player to sign with Genclerbirligi. He will strive to assist the team in achieving promotion to the Super Lig by the conclusion of the forthcoming season.
Etebo made his debut with the Super Eagles in 2013 and was a significant contributor to the team. His performances were instrumental until the emergence of Wilfred Ndidi. The recently formed Genclerbirligi squad has seen action on 45 occasions for the Nigerian national team, although the player in question has not been selected for the Super Eagles since 2022.
