Ighodalo threatens Oshiomhole with ₦20 billion lawsuit in Edo
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate in the forthcoming September 21, 2024, governorship election in Edo State, Asue Ighodalo, has issued a seven-day ultimatum to the former governor of the state, Adams Oshiomhole, to retract the malicious and defamatory statements he made against him on national television.
Ireporteronline reported that Oshiomhole, during an interview on Arise TV, had described Ighodalo as unelectable, unable to speak his language, and lacking the qualities required for the Edo people to elect him as governor.
In a letter dated August 12, 2024, by his lawyers, Ayo Asala (SAN) & Associates, Ighodalo said Oshiomhole had made wild and unsubstantiated allegations about the status of his candidacy, including [specific allegations].
Ighodalo stated that when the program’s hosts cautioned him, Oshiomhole persisted in his claims and made other derogatory remarks about him, thereby directly attacking his person, reputation, and integrity.
Ighodalo, the PDP governorship candidate, is insistent on his demand for a public and private apology from the Senator, which he has specified must be published in two particular national dailies, Vanguard and ThisDay Newspapers.
Ighodalo has made it clear that if the Senator fails to comply with his demands, he will have no choice but to immediately file a N20 billion damages suit against him, a move that could have significant and serious repercussions.
The letter reads in part: “On or about the 7th day of August 2024, our client’s attention was drawn to widely circulated statements made by you during an interview on a national television station, Arise News, during its morning show program, which touched on and concerned our clients. These statements have also been widely circulated on social media platforms, including ‘X’ (formally known as Twitter), ‘WhatsApp’ and ‘Facebook.'”
