Tuokpe, the former spouse of the renowned political activist and author Reno Omokri, has publicly alleged that he perpetrated acts of domestic abuse throughout their marriage. In a candid Instagram post, Tuokpe detailed her harrowing experiences and emphasized that no woman should endure any form of violence.

She provided a detailed account of several troubling incidents, including a painful episode where she woke up to find blood on her pillow due to a ruptured eardrum, which she attributed to Omokri’s actions. Tuokpe additionally described other instances of violence that prompted her to seek assistance from law enforcement.

Tuokpe asserts that Omokri sought a submissive partner who would conform to his controlling behavior, a dynamic that contrasts with her independent background and his expectations.

In her post, she wrote, “It is imperative that women be afforded the right to refuse abuse in a marriage, regardless of how infrequently such instances occur.” Such justifications as the desire to preserve the family unit or to remain in the marriage for the children’s sake are frequently proffered. The reality, however, is that children deserve better.

“Following the initial incident of violence, which resulted in a swollen jaw and weeks of pain, I rationalized that I must have provoked his anger. Furthermore, I was forced to witness my daughter being subjected to another slap. The culminating incident occurred when I awoke to discover blood on my pillow, the result of a ruptured eardrum that you had caused. The situation reached a point at which it was necessary to involve the police.

“You now assert that you are happily married to an individual who does not engage in disputes or disagreements. I wish her well, as she has become the person you sought, someone who can be controlled and intimidated. “I was never destined to be that individual; I was not socialized to be timid.”
