The truth behind the ‘awkward’ Camilla, Kate and Melania

Cameras caught what seemed to be a slightly uncomfortable moment between Queen Camilla and Kate Middleton as they talked to first lady Melania Trump at the official state visit welcome. On 17 September, Princess Kate and Prince William were the first to greet President Donald Trump and his wife at Windsor Castle. This was the start of the official trip. The royal couple went with the Trumps to meet King Charles and Queen Camilla outside Victoria House. Video footage of the welcome shows Donald (79) and Melania (55) greeting the King (76) and Queen (77), as well as their private secretaries Sir Clive Alderton and Sophie Densham. The U.S. president and the King then turned to talk to each other, as did Camilla and Melania. The Prince and Princess of Wales, aged 43, then approached. Prince William joined the King and Donald's conversation, while Princess Kate went to talk with the Queen and Melania. The Princesses Kate and Melania had a friendly chat, while Camilla watched and took in her surroundings. After a few moments, the Queen signalled to Princess Kate to move with a subtle gesture. Princess Kate did what she was asked, said goodbye to Melania, and walked over to Prince William. Then Queen Camilla and Melania spoke together as they stood with the rest of the group. This allowed the horses and carriage to take them to Windsor Castle. Queen Camilla and Melania had another chance to chat while they were travelling together in the Scottish State Coach. The King and the President were in the Irish State Coach, while the Prince and the Princess of Wales were in the Semi-State Landau with Warren Stephens, the U.S. Ambassador to the U.K., who was with his wife. The welcome ceremony is one of the most exciting parts of a state visit, and the next big event is the state dinner at Windsor Castle on Wednesday.
