Today, photos that show more skin — or bare it all — are the new norm, but Billie Eilish, one of the most popular singers, has jumped on that bandwagon. She has always preferred a privatesecretive lifestyle with minimal posting to social media, but occasional snippets from her daily life make her fans happy.
However, after sharing a few photos of herself on a beach vacation with her friends in Hawaii, Billie later revealed the harsh criticism that followed from her Instagram followers.
In an interview with Dazed magazine, Billie shares, “I saw comments like, ‘How dare she talk about not wanting to be sexualized and wear this?!” and “‘I don’t like her any more because as soon as she turns 18 she’s a whore”.
Billie has spoken up about the times she felt uncomfortable with her body in her teens and how online bullying affected her then. Because of her large breasts, she used to hide her figure from everyone — including herself — under baggy clothes, to the point where she didn’t recognize her body. The diet pills and starving herself only made matters worse.
Had this body-shaming happened a few years ago, the singer speculates that she probably would have begun to starve herself again. But today, she encourages self-love and receives plenty of supportive comments from her fans to offset the criticism.
