The property is sprawling and owned by the Vice President.
As Vice President of the United States, Kamala Harris and her husband, Second Gentleman Doug Emhoff, are fortunate to call Number One Observatory Circle in Washington D.C. their home.
After moving in April 2021, the couple’s 33-room official residence underwent renovations. Before relocating to the East Coast, Kamala and Doug lived in a home in Brentwood, Los Angeles, which they still own.
Doug reportedly bought the property in 2012 for $2.7 million, two years before marrying Kamala. After their wedding, the lawyer transferred the home into a joint trust, and they now own it together, according to the Wall Street Journal.
The 3,500-square-foot Brentwood estate boasts four bedrooms, five bathrooms, and a private pool. Zillow estimates the home’s value at $5 million.
As the vice president’s home, little else is known about the property, including personal touches like the décor. However, Kamala Harris and Doug Emhoff are not the only notable residents of Brentwood.

The area also has several A-list celebrities, including Gisele Bündchen, Dr. Dre, LeBron James, and Gwyneth Paltrow. Additionally, in the same year, Paltrow acquired a $10.5 million equestrian estate with six bedrooms and eight bathrooms.
Gwyneth’s home is 8,000 square feet and includes high ceilings, a gourmet kitchen, wood-paneled walls, a built-in outdoor barbecue, and horse stables. Although the actress spends most of her time at her $5 million Montecito retreat, she still owns her Brentwood home.
Kamala Harris’ official residence in Washington, D.C., has 33 rooms.
The vice president’s official residence is on the grounds of the US Naval Observatory in Washington, D.C. The Queen Anne-style home is on 13 acres of leafy hillside and offers ample privacy, which is not always available at the White House.
The 9,000-square-foot estate includes round turret rooms, inglenook fireplaces, sweeping verandas, and a heated pool. Seven vice presidents had lived in the home before Kamala and Doug moved in. Each added their personal touches to make the house their own. Kamala and Doug completed their renovations in just over a year.
They incorporated elements of California, where Kamala served as attorney general and senator, and her cultural heritage as the first woman of color to hold the vice president title.
Sheila Bridges, the designer, used a neutral color palette and added bold accents throughout the home. For instance, she created a pink library and chose designs by American talents that domestic manufacturers produced.
