A family of eight who allegedly gorged themselves on £329 worth of food at Bella Ciao Swansea restaurant and then "ran away" have been condemned on social media. Many have called them "scum". A family of eight greedy people has been condemned on social media after allegedly gorging themselves on expensive food and then running off without paying. Four adults and four children, including a baby in a highchair, gorged themselves on £329 worth of food and drank at the recently opened Sicilian restaurant Bella Ciao Swansea in Wales and then "ran away." The restaurant's management took to Facebook to shame the family, sharing CCTV images and video footage. Restaurant officials called the family's actions "disgusting" and said they used a fake phone number to make a reservation and played a botched credit card trick when it came time to pay. Manager Tyrone Reese said the family ordered the "most expensive" dishes on the menu, including T-bone steaks. The management of Bella Ciao, which only opened last week, wrote: "To the family who left the restaurant this evening without paying the £329 bill, shame on them!!!! " The young lady tried to pay with a savings account card, which was declined twice. She then said her son would wait inside while she went to get "another card." Naturally, she didn't return, at which point her son got a call saying he had to go, so he ran off. " We had no way of contacting you as the number you used to book was fake! So we had no choice but to report you to the Police." "To do this to anyone is disgusting, but to do this to a newly opened restaurant is even worse!" South Wales Police are currently investigating the incident. The Facebook post was widely shared on other social media platforms, including X (formerly Twitter), garnering millions of views and thousands of comments. One of them reads, "Disgusting. Jail them. What an example to set for the kids. Disgusting." Another called the adults "the lowest of the low," while a third added: "I hope they get caught." The family received further criticism on Channel X after the post racked up more than 11 million views. Each wrote: "Well done for shaming them," while another called them "scum." The restaurant was thanked for shaming the family, with many expressing how lovely the menu looked and how they would order dinner there to support them. A South Wales Police spokesman said: "Police were called at around 9.40 pm on April 19 to reports of an assault without payment at a commercial premises on Castle Street in Swansea. " Investigations are ongoing to establish the full circumstances of the incident and the identity of those involved."
