In response to the recent violence in the state, Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara has established a judicial commission of inquiry.
This action follows the arson of the secretariats of the Ikwere and Emohua Local Government Councils, which resulted in the destruction of property and the loss of life.
As reported by POLITICS NIGERIA, the violence, which occurred on Monday, October 7, 2024, was allegedly perpetrated by supporters of former Governor Nyesom Wike, with whom Fubara has been in contention.
The attacks destroyed three local government secretariats.
Fubara has pledged to take action against those responsible, a departure from previous incidents in which perpetrators were not held to account.
Meanwhile, a statement released by the Office of the Secretary to the Rivers State Government, Dr. Tammy Danagogo, on Tuesday indicated that the judicial commission was established by Section 2(1) of the Commissions of Inquiry Law. Its purpose is to investigate incidents of arson, killings, and property destruction at local government council headquarters.

– Barr. Uzor Ikenga, Counsel to the Commission, and Mrs. Inyingi Brown, Secretary, will be sworn in at the Executive Council Chambers, Government House, Port Harcourt, as stated in the aforementioned communiqué.
