John always trusted his drone—it helped him find places invisible from the ground. While filming over a wild mountain range, the camera suddenly captured something strange: a small wooden door built directly into the rock face at the very top of the mountain. There were no trails, no houses, no signs of people nearby. At first, John thought it was just an optical illusion or an old marker left by a hiker. But the closer the drone flew, the more obvious it became—the door was real. Old, weathered, and clearly not accidentally created. Curiosity instantly overcame caution.
Reaching the summit proved much more difficult than he expected.
When John finally reached the summit, fatigue quickly gave way to anxious admiration. The door was small, just above waist height, covered in cracks and the marks of time, yet firmly anchored in the rock—no inscriptions or symbols outside—only an oppressive silence. John pulled the handle, and a gust of icy air rushed in from within, obscuring the passage in darkness.
Behind the door was no cave at all, but a long stone tunnel. Its walls looked too smooth to be natural, as if carved by hand centuries ago. The stone was covered with ancient symbols he had once seen in old legends and obscure texts.
The deeper he went, the more the sense of danger grew. Strange whispers echoed through the tunnel, as if someone were moving very close. Suddenly, something touched his head. John spun around, lost his balance, and collapsed on the stone floor. In a panic, he felt as if something had grabbed his legs and was pulling him down.
When the flashlight illuminated the tunnel again, the truth was less mystical, but no less terrifying. He was held up only by long roots and drooping vines that had grown through the ceiling. The people who created this tunnel clearly did so intentionally, and the symbols on the walls weren’t left for study—they were meant to deter anyone who dared enter.
John hurried back to the exit, hoping to leave this place as quickly as possible. But a new fear awaited him outside. The sun had almost disappeared below the horizon, and descending the steep mountain in the darkness seemed mortally dangerous. In desperation, John noticed a drone lying nearby. With trembling hands, he attached a note to it asking for help and sent the craft toward the nearest settlement.
Help arrived literally at the last moment. Returning home, John began studying the symbols he had found and soon realized the true meaning of his discovery. The tunnel turned out to be neither a temple nor a shelter, but part of a long-vanished civilization that had deliberately concealed its knowledge and left warnings for those who would one day find the entrance. For his discovery, John received fame and a reward, but a lingering unease persisted for a long time.
